Sudoku is a number-placement puzzle: fill a nine-by-nine grid so that each row, column and three-by-three box contains the digits one through nine without repetition. The numbers act as symbols, so progress comes from eliminating possibilities rather than performing arithmetic.

Look for a reason before entering a digit

Start with a row, column or box that has relatively few empty cells. For each empty cell, consider which digits are excluded by its three units. Candidate notes can help keep that reasoning visible; they are most useful when you update them consistently after a confirmed placement.

Choose how much help you want

Use candidate notes to keep track of possibilities or turn to a hint when you want help taking the next step. Try a harder difficulty when you are ready for a longer challenge.
